Baby Snyman arrives in five days!
I'm pretty sure everyone's already heard, but just in case...
Two weeks ago we found out that our little one is in the breech position- that's head up, rather than head down like they're supposed to be. It was quite upsetting news, because as I've mentioned, I've been planning on having a homebirth, and I can't do that with a breech baby- in fact, most doctors nowadays refuse to deliver a breech baby naturally because of risks associated with breech births. Naturally our baby's health and safety come before anything else, so I knew that if baby didn't turn that I'd need a c-section.
We had an appointment with our doctor yesterday to have him try to turn the baby manually, but alas, baby is VERY comfortable sitting head up (can't say as I blame them- I prefer sitting head up to head down as well!), and wasn't budging. I wasn't surprised when baby didn't move, but I was a little surprised to hear that I'll be meeting the little one next Wednesday! I'll be 39 weeks pregnant then, so the baby will be ready- I had hoped to have the baby in August though. My mom, my sister, my brother, and Raoul all have birthdays in July- I guess this baby didn't want to feel left out!
I have to be at the hospital at 6 am on Wednesday. Dr. Dumbrill will do an ultrasound, just in case the baby has turned and made a c-section unnecessary, and then (since it's pretty doubtful that will happen because of how cozy baby is in there) I'll have the c-section and get to meet our little son or daughter! I can't believe I get to meet this little one in less than a week- wow! I also can't believe how little this baby is! The baby is measuring completely average, but they're only currently estimated at 3 kgs (6.6 lbs). I always thought I'd have a bit of a bigger baby- around 8 lbs, so this one is really going to seem tiny to me, especially when I'm used to seeing all the older babies at church.
It's very exciting to think that I'll meet this little person in less than a week, but very surreal as well. Well, I can't think of much else to say, and I need to start getting my hospital bag together (I'll be there for 3 nights!), so off I go!
