Being a friend of one of the members of the band meant that I knew that they were recording, and since they're a South African Christian band, I decided to support them financially by buying an album (at least that's what I was telling myself as the reason for buying the album).

So when I eventually fetched my CD from the post office (::harbourlight:: haven't struck a distribution deal yet), Hannah and I popped it into the CD player in the car immediately.

The first thing that struck me was the quality of the recording. I've heard a fair number of South African artists' recordings that sounded amateur. Come Home is excellent quality; a really professional recording.

Once we were home, I popped the CD into my computer and started ripping it to OGG (a better alternative to MP3), as per my norm. While my computer was busy encoding the tracks, I had a look through the words in the CD booklet, and I was rather impressed with them.

One of the things that has struck me recently, and become a factor in the music I buy, is how much Christian music has rather shallow lyrics. Too many "I feel happy!" and "God makes everything alright." songs without much thought going into them. I'm sure the artists are very genuine, but it just becomes tiresome after listening to the same thing over and over again.

So seeing these scriptural lyrics really excited me. As soon as all the tracks on Come Home were encoded, I stuck them  into my Amarok playlist, and set it on "repeat this album."

I'll have to admit that it took some time for me to grow attached to the album. It's not my normal style of music. I prefer heavier music like Pillar, Skillet, Disciple and Red, but after listening to it a few times, I started to really enjoy this album.

My favourite track on the album is One God, with it's driving bass guitar and rhythm and catchy guitar licks. This is followed closely by Redeeming Love, also a fairly upbeat track, with some really good words. On the slower side, I enjoy the lyrics of My soul finds rest and it's touching melody, and In Your eyes I also found creeping into my heart.

Overall, the level of professionalism displayed by ::harbourlight:: is excellent. Musically they are very good, and the skill each musician in the band has comes through as you listen to the album. Each person in the band is giving their best, and it really comes through in the quality of the lyrics and the music.

On most CDs I've bought, I've had one or two tracks that I don't like, and I can honestly say that I like all the tracks on Come Home. I can't find anything to NOT like on this CD.
