Latest pregnancy news

This past Tuesday I had my first appointment with the midwife. I was very excited for the appointment, as it makes things feel a bit more real to get antenatal care started and start planning for the birth and everything. I was also really happy to meet Susan and Ciska, the midwives. This appointment was with Susan, but my next appointment should be with Ciska, who I've had phone contact with since my pregnancy test in December. Both of them should be at the birth unless something comes up (like another woman being in labour at the same time).Read more »

General Status Update

Well, I just thought I'd post a general update on what's been happening the last while, and where we're at and where we're going (or hoping to).Read more »

Life with my lady

Well, one of the main questions I'm asked these days is, "So, how are things?"

"Um, fine. What do you mean?"

"You know, things with, with Hannah."

"Oh. fine thanks."

It's like people expect things to be not good or wonky or something. Both Hannah and I knew we would be fine, so when people ask us questions like that we are not sure what they're asking.Read more »

It's not fun being sick

Well, yesterday at work I started the day feeling fine, but by the time I reached lunch time I was not feeling well at all. I had a sore throat, a runny nose and a headache. Not the easiest of conditions to concentrate on work with.

And then last night, while I was sleeping, my throat got worse. So then this morning I called in sick to work, and made an appointment to see the doctor.

So the doctor took a look in my throat and said, "hmmm... it's not looking kosher inside here..."Read more »

More fish saga & Mom's arrival

Well, Harry seems to be getting better. I took a good look at him while changing the water of the hospital last night, and the fin rot seems to be receding once again, so I'm confident of his return to health. In other words, the fish medicine seems to be working. This time however, I have decided to wait until I can't see anymore fungus on him before releasing him back to the tank.Read more »

Cars and fish...

Well, I put poor old Harry back into hospital. The poor guy's fin rot seemed to be coming back. I think I'd better clean out the tank, since I haven't had a chance yet, as it might be that the tank is what is aggravating the fin rot. In the mean time, Harry is getting a "treatment" in the hospital: some fish medicine. So far I haven't really seen much of an improvement, but then again he's only been in the hospital for a few days.  Shame, poor chap, I really feel sorry for him.Read more »

Harry is back home

Well, Harry is back home. This evening I put him back in the fish tank with the others. He was a bit wary and slow to move in the beginning, but after about 5 minutes he was swimming around like he'd never left the tank.Read more »

Harry's last week in hospital

Well, I've decided to leave Harry in the hospital for one more week. Next weekend, it's back in the fish tank for him. He's doing well, the fungus on his back and dorsal fin is most definitely dissapating, he's lively, puts up a good fight when I transfer him to the bucket while I get rid of his old water.Read more »

Harry is on the mend

Well, Harry is still alive, and he's looking much better! He's still in "hospital" but the black of the fungus on his back and fins is fading, and he's holding his dorsal fin high. He's eating well and swimming around vigorously.

I've been monitoring his progress, and I've been cleaning the water every day (or almost every day), so I think that has helped to fight the fin rot.Read more »

Like a lamb to slaughter....

Last week I went to the dentist and got a tooth pulled and a temporary filling. Tomorrow I'm going back and getting another tooth pulled, the first filling redone, and another filling. My mouth still hurts from the first time around, so as you can imagine, I'm NOT looking forward to it.

The dentist I'm going to is actually in Mexico, so it's a little over an hour's drive away. Again, not ideal, but it's inexpensive....so, it works.  Read more »
